The BLS Instructor course includes the BLS Instructor Essentials Online course. This self-directed, online portion of the BLS Instructor Essentials blended learning Course. Course content covers steps for becoming an AHA BLS Instructor and steps of the instruction cycle: Prepare, Teach, Test & Remediate, Close, and Keep Current. This course includes core information about instructing AHA BLS Provider courses, followed by course-specific information.

The BLS Instructor Essentials Course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach AHA Instructor-led and blended learning BLS Provider courses. It educates instructor candidates on how to use AHA Instructor teaching materials, ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation, and follow AHA Instructor and course policies. The course covers core content and discipline-specific content required to teach AHA courses.

Prerequisite:

  • Must hold a current BLS Provider certification

ADVANCE CARDIAC LIFE SUPPORT (ACLS) Update/Refresher Course

  • For healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies and for personnel in emergency response

What does this course teach?

  • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED
  • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest
  • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia
  • Airway management
  • Related pharmacology
  • Management of ACS and stroke
  • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

After your AHA Course 

The goal of the Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support for Experienced Providers (ACLS EP) Course is to improve outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory and other (eg, metabolic, toxicological) emergencies by expanding on core ACLS guidelines and encouraging critical thinking and decision-making strategies. Through instruction and active participation in case-based scenarios, learners enhance their skills in the differential diagnosis and treatment of prearrest, arrest and post arrest patients.

Course Cost: $145.00 does not include book   

Prerequisite:

  • Hold a current ACLS Instructor card 
  • Hold a ACLS-EP provider card
  • Submit a copy of their ACLS-EP Exam certificate
    • You would have taken this exam at the ACLS-EP provider course. 
    • ACLS-EP Exam Certificate will be available on your AHA/ATLAS account.
  • Must have a clear understanding of the ACLS-EP provider manual

Each potential instructor will receive a USB drive with all the case scenarios and access to the provider manuals and ACLS-EP Toolkit.

C.E. Accreditation: This continuing education activity is approved by the American Heart Association, an organization accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS), for 7.25 Advanced CEHs, activity number 13-AMHA-F2-0175.

The Course:

ACLS EP is a classroom-based, Instructor-led course, featuring case-based scenarios.  In learning station, interactive case-based discussions are facilitated by the ACLS-EP instructor.  The cases are designed to promote critical thinking and decision-making.

The recommended group size for ACLS –EP is 6-10 learners, per one ACLS –EP Instructor.  Rations for testing stations are explained in depth in the Instructor Manual., Which is contained within the ACLS EP DVD Set.

Cancellations: Ada County Paramedics adheres to a NO REFUND policy.  We understand that in rare instances a last-minute event may arise that is beyond your control requiring you to cancel.  For cancellations within 48 hours or greater from engaging in these activities, please contact the course coordinator at tgenther@adacounty.id.gov or (208)287-2973.  Please Note:  Failure to show or cancel will result in forfeiture of course fees and require a new registration for any future course.  

Registration/Payment:  After you enroll into this course, you will be invoiced for the total amount.  You will receive the instructor manual, course assignment, if the course assignment is too large to send, we will mail you a thumb drive of your assignment.

ACLS Experience Provider (EP)

The goal of the classroom, Instructor-led ACLS EP Course is to improve outcomes in complex cardiovascular, respiratory and other (eg, metabolic, toxicological) emergencies by expanding on core ACLS guidelines and encouraging critical thinking and decision making strategies. Through instruction and active participation in case-based scenarios, learners enhance their skills in the differential diagnosis and treatment of prearrest, arrest and post arrest patients. The length of this class is 8 hours.

For successful course completion, learners must actively participate in all case-based scenarios and must meet all current ACLS
course completion requirements including
· Pass the 1-rescuer CPR and AED skills test
· Pass the bag-mask ventilation skills test
· Pass the Megacode skills test
· Pass the ACLS Provider exam with a score of 84% or higher (You can access your keycode twice)

Prerequisite:

  • You must take the on-line ACLS-EP Test once you are registered for this course, a separate notification with a link will be sent to your email to take this online exam.  

Upon successful completion, learners receive an ACLS EP course completion card, valid for 2 years.

 ACLS-EP (Expericence Provider) will replace your ACLS Provider level card

SWO Protocol: G-01 Medical Direction

Each licensed Paramedic in the ACCESS system shall maintain ACLS Certification (Failure to maintain cerification will result in suspension of credentials an this levelof a medical provider in the ACCESS system.)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS):

  • For healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units

What does this course teach?

The PALS Provider Course aims to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high‐performance team dynamics and high‐quality individual skills. The course includes a series of case scenario practices with simulations that reinforce important concepts. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%. Topics include:

After successfully completing this course, students will be able to

  • Perform high‐quality cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) per American Heart Association (AHA) basic life support (BLS) recommendations
  • Differentiate between patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
  • Recognize cardiopulmonary arrest early and begin CPR within 10 seconds
  • Apply team dynamics
  • Differentiate between respiratory distress and failure
  • Perform early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
  • Differentiate between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
  • Perform early interventions for the treatment of shock
  • Differentiate between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmias
  • Describe clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
  • Implement post–cardiac arrest management

Goal: By registering Update PALS course you understand the need for significant pre-course preparation, and understand that without adequate pre-course preparation you may not successfully complete the PALS course.

To Prepare:

  • Complete a BLS Providers (2015) course or be able to perform high-quality CPR and use and AED according to the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. 
  • Understand the 10 cases in the PALS Provider (2015) Manual
  • Understand the PALS algorithms for the cases in the PALS Provider Manual
  • Complete the PALS Precourse self-assessment on PALS ECG's and Pharmacology

NOTE: All ACCESS employees' AHA certification records will be verified.  If not valid, the employee will receive an email informing them of what their options are. ACCESS employees are EXEMPT from the cost (unless otherwise noted)

Advanced Airway

SUMMARY:   The goal of The A.C.C.E.S.S. Advanced Airway Course is to improve outcomes in complex airway emergencies by expanding on core practices and skills, learning current several widely accepted "best practices" and "strategies" in difficult airway management, and encouraging critical thinking and decision-making.

Through cooperative learning and active participation in lectures, small group discussions, case-based scenarios, and skills stations; students enhance their skills in the differential diagnosis and treatment of critically ill and injured patients requiring advanced airway management.

At the end of the course, students should begin to conceptually form a cohesive universal strategy for prehospital airway management, with the twin goals of improving first-pass success and decreasing pt morbidity/mortality via predictable factors.

ATTENDANCE: Attendance is required both days. Please note that this course is open to ACCESS ALS (Paramedic) providers only. Contact your agency's training officer to be approved for attendance in this course.

REQUIREMENTS: In addition to attendance and attendance in this course, students will be required to:

  • Complete pre- and post- course surveys
  • Complete select pre-course educational assignments in the spirit of "flipped education"
  • Complete a final post-course assessment (Test).

This two-day Airway course schedule is scheduled for the following month.
